The prints and plains in Patterns of History are based on antique fabrics from the 1930s and 1940s, the heyday of The Star’s old newsprint patterns that are so collectable today. Each print is named to honor a Midwestern quilt pattern designer, such as Ruby Short McKim, who began the The Star’s column, or Edna Marie Dunn, who maintained it for almost three decades.
Just as it was back then, the theme of the fabric is simple florals over geometric backgrounds. Pansies and roses float over plaids and polka dots in either authentic old pastels or a palette of Moda’s signature updated shades. Plain fabrics complement the prints.
